The Long Bay Symphony presents a “War and Peace Concert” Nov. 9-10.
The “War and Peace Concert” is a patriotic program features songs from the Revolutionary War to the present, tracing the nation’s quest for freedom through music and narrative. The concert starts at 3 p.m. at Howard Auditorium in Georgetown on Nov. 9 and on Nov. 10 at First United Methodist Church in Conway at 2 p.m. and St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Charles Jones Evans and the orchestra take veterans down memory lane with tunes like “Yankee Doodle,” “Battle Hymn,” “God Bless America,” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, a World War II favorite by the Andrew Sisters. Larkin Spivey, a decorated veteran from the Vietnam War and retired Marine, hosts the concert event.
The area’s JROTC will present the colors and each branch of the military is recognized with their song. Veterans are urged to wear their uniform, hat and medals for the recognition part of the program. Veterans may attend the concert at no charge (with ticket) and other tickets are $10.
