Waccamaw beat the Hanahan Hawks 36-11 last Friday night, finishing the regular season with a 6-3 overall record and 2-2 in Region 8-3A. The Warriors clinched third place in the region.
On the first play of the game, Warriors quarterback Denson Crisler connected with receiver Tyree Funnye on an 80-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 at the 11:39 mark of the first quarter. Both defenses would stand tall and that would be the only score of the quarter.
At the 11:11 mark of the second quarter, Waccamaw made it 13-0 after a 59-yard touchdown run by running back Kaimon Skinner. With 4:09 to go in the quarter Warriors Kicker Jackson Forrest connected on a 29-yard field goal to make it 16-0.
The Hawks added a 37-yard field goal with 1:24 to go in the second quarter to get on the board at 16-3. After a long kickoff return by running back Jay Simmons, Crisler hit tight end Kaisaun Grate for a 26-yard touchdown to make it 23-3 with 57 seconds to go in the quarter.
Hanahan came back from the break and make the score 23-11 after a 60-yard pass play on their first possession. At the 8:39 mark of the third quarter, Crisler connected with Funnye on a 49-yard touchdown pass to make it 29-11.
Simmons added a touchdown of his own with 11:50 to go in the game, making it 36-11 and securing the victory for the Warriors.
Crisler went 7/11 for 243 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Skinner rushed eight times for 135 yards and a touchdown. Simmons carried six times for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Funnye had three receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Grate caught two balls for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Linebacker Walker Parler led the way on defense with five tackles and nine assists. Defensive lineman Antonio Haggins added a sack.
The Warriors will travel to Dillon this Friday night in the first round of the playoffs.
