Carvers Bay football

Carvers Bay opened the 2018 season with a 81-14 victory over Waccamaw Aug. 17 at Big Bear Stadium.

The search for a new head football coach at Carvers Bay is nearly complete.

On May 13, Georgetown County School District spokesperson Ray White released the names of the three finalists for the position vacated by longtime head coach Nate Thompson, who announced his retirement before the start of the 2018 season.

The three finalists are; Matthew Richard Jr., Joshua A. Fitzgerald and Aundres Leon Perkins.

Richard Jr. played at the University of South Carolina and has been the defensive coordinator for the Bears for several seasons under Thompson. Under Richard, the Bears defense allowed just 14.4 points per game in 2018.

Perkins is currently the special teams coordinator at West Florence High School. He also played running back at Coastal Carolina University from 2003-2006. The Knights were 11-2 last season in Class 5A. Perkins is also the head softball coach at West Florence.

Fitzgerald is currently the running backs and defensive backs coach of the Hannover Spartans in Hannover, Germany.
