St. James Head Coach Tommy Norwood relays instructions for the Sharks during the start of the second half.

The St. James Sharks fought a hard-fought game, losing to the Aynor Blue Jackets 36-29 at home Sept. 27. The Sharks are now 3-2 on the season.

By the end of the second quarter, the Blue Jackets were already up 16-0 on two touchdowns and successful two-point conversions. The Sharks re-grouped in the locker room and came back from halftime with a one-yard touchdown run by running back Deondray Stanfield at the 9:53 mark making the score 16-8 after a successful two-point conversion.

Aynor added another touchdown at the 5:39 mark of the third quarter while St. James answered with a touchdown of their own at the 2:22 mark on a touchdown pass from quarterback Ethan White to receiver Randy Smith making the score 22-15 in favor of the Blue Jackets.

St. James tied the game up at 22-22 with 10:08 to go in the game on a 44-yard touchdown run by Stanfield, his second on the night. Unfortunately, Aynor was able to score two more touchdowns in the quarter to make it 36-22.

White ran in a quarterback keeper for an eight-yard touchdown with 44 seconds to go in the game making it 36-29.

The Sharks had 353 yards of offense on the night, with 267 rushing and 86 passing. Unfortunately, the team had three fumbles, a key aspect of the loss.

Stanfield had 122 yards rushing on 9 attempts with two touchdowns and running back Malachi Butler had 108 yards rushing on 8 attempts.

The Sharks will travel to  South Florence in a region game on Friday night.
