The Area 9 Special Olympics annual spring games were held on May 6 at Georgetown High School. Hundreds of participants took part in events such as running, wheelchair racing, softball and shot put.

Georgetown County School District Superintendent Dr. Randy Dozier said the event is well organized and would not be possible without the help of all of the volunteers.

"It's a big day for our teachers and students. It is great to see these students being able to compete," he said. "It's a big celebration."
