Lady Warriors

The Waccamaw Lady Warriors golf team, under second-year coach Charles Chappelle, recently finished in 14th place at the Class 3A State Tournament held at Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University.

The team shot 389 in round one and 372 in round two for a total score of 761.

Allie Bird had the lowest score for the Warriors, shooting 187 to tie for 51st place in the tournament. She shot 94 in round one and 93 in round two.

Other Waccamaw scores were: Anna Brown 190, Brianna Hammond 191, Kayla Holek 196 and Riley Young 204.

Holek finished the first day with the second lowest score of the team and is only in the seventh grade. Young, a senior, finished strong by dropping 10 strokes off her score the second day of the tournament. She was honored during Senior Night on Oct. 10.

Oceanside Collegiate claimed the title after shooting 582 for the tournament. Chesnee finished in second and Gilbert took third place.

The Warriors qualified for the tournament by finishing in fifth place at the Lower State tournament held at Cheraw State Park on Oct. 21. The team shot a 388 there, highlighted by a 92 from Bird.
