Kevin Gleason won the inaugural Pawleys Island Open, a C-Tier PDGA sanctioned disc golf tournament which took place on July 28 with a full field of 40 players competing in several divisions.

The tournament kicked off with a shotgun start at 9am. Competitors played a total of 44 holes over the course of a morning and afternoon round. Two temporary holes were added which were played four times each to increase the typical 36-hole outing.

Gleason, playing out of Maryland, taught a free disc golf clinic the day before scorching the course with a first round total of 53 followed by a 59 which was good enough for a -36. He finished first in the Professional division followed by Dan Newquist (-19) of Pawleys Island and Christopher Atkinson (-18) of Conway.

Daniel Overstreet of Charleston won the Advanced division with a score of -32, only four strokes behind Gleason. Michael Pahno (-28) of Mount Pleasant finished second and Jeffrey Murray (-23) of Myrtle Beach finished third.

Chad Sullivan (-22) of Murrells Inlet finished fourth.

Ashley Sullivan (+11) of Murrells Inlet took first place in the Advanced Women division. Michelle Hooper of Summerville (+18) was second followed by Dakota Lynn (+38).

In the Recreation division, Jared Hendrickson (-12) took first place. Derrick Young (-11) and Ryan Riddei (-11) of Myrtle Beach tied for second.

Representing Pawleys Island, Tyler Barnes (-6) finished seventh.

Chris McClellan (-28) of Hanahan won the Amateur Masters division. Edward Perez (-20) finished second and Dax Warren (-17) of Johns Island finished third.

The tournament was hosted by the Myrtle Beach Disc Golf Club. Martin “Tate” Jones served as the Tournament Director and is a member of the Myrtle Beach DGC. Player packs consisted of custom stamped discs, a tournament t-shirt, mini disc, Innova disc towel and more.
