All is not lost.
The Georgetown High School Athletic Department and the Georgetown Bulldog Booster Club are teaming up to hold “Virtual Senior Nights” at the school for its spring sports seniors on Tuesday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 6 whose seasons were canceled due to COVID-19.
“It’s outstanding that we’re letting them know we’re with them,” Georgetown High assistant athletic director Alvin Walker said. “I know their season got cut short, but I love the years that they put in at GHS and I hope for the best for them in life.”
Athletes and their families will be practicing social distancing by arriving at staggered times over two evenings. Spectators are not permitted, but the school’s booster club will be live streaming each senior’s recognition on the Georgetown High School Bulldogs Athletic Booster Club’s Facebook page.
“It’s not a good thing (that happened), but they’ll never forget this year though,” Walker said. “They’ll be stronger people, period. Life will knock you down but you’ll be stronger. It’s hard, but I always look for a positive and try to uplift people.”
On Tuesday, the festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with golfers Trace Adams, James Gore, and Corey Stone being recognized. At 5:45 p.m., softball players Meagan Vause and Anna Watson will get their turn, and at 6:30 p.m., baseball players L.J. Creel, Grant Hall and Will Owens will have their moment.
On Wednesday at 5 p.m., girls’ soccer players Infinniti Adams, Niambi Houston, and Alston Nash will be recognized. At 5:30 p.m., boys’ soccer players Brandon Gary, Jamari Geathers, Cristian Grant, Madison Lin, Oscar Olguin-Badillo, Omer Omer, and Angel Palafox will be in the spotlight. At 6:15 p.m., girls’ track athletes Aquizette Dorsey, Jza’Nia Grant, Tranise Parker and Imani Simon will be front and center. Last, but certainly not least, is boys’ track athlete Malik Anderson at 6:30 p.m.
“I want them all to know that I love them, and they know that,” Walker said. “It’s a pleasure to see them every day in these hallways. Even if they’re not on my ball club, I come to their games and support them. I wish them the best. They are all winners in this game of life.”
