For the second-straight year, Coastal Carolina’s Courtney Dean has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
The junior, who entered the 2020 spring semester with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average while working towards her bachelor’s degree in public health, earned both Academic All-District and All-America honors last season from CoSIDA.
Dean, who was coming off a knee injury that ended her 2019 season early, was third on the team with a .333 batting average this season before it was abruptly ended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She hit two home runs and drove in nine RBIs, and led the team with six doubles on the year.
The third-year Chant was hitting her stride when the season was ended, as over the final 14 games of the shortened 2020 season, she hit .450 with two home runs, six doubles, seven RBIs, and scored 12 runs.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and the NAIA.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
