The Student Angler League Tournament Trail wrapped up the high school season on Saturday with a record number of anglers.
Twenty-eight of the trail's 41 two-man teams participated in the event, with 17 teams bringing fish to the scales for weigh-in.
The redfish division was dominated by anglers from Andrews. Dylan Skipper and Walker McKenzie of Andrews High took first with a two-fish total of 5.72 pounds, along with the big fish of 3.91 pounds.
Rounding out the top six were: second, Cody Lively and Mitch Soles of Andrews High, two-fish total of 3.85 pounds; third, Noah Payne and Kadyn Kellahan of Rosemary Middle School, two-fish total of 3.84 pounds; fourth, Henry Poston of Academy for Arts, Science and Technology and Benjamin Biddle of Blackwater Middle School, one 1.75-pound fish; fifth, Ashton Rouhselang and Fisher Anderson of Conway Middle School, one 1.56-pound fish; sixth, Eli Johnson of Whittemore Park Middle School, one 1.39-pound fish.
Capt. Rayburn Poston, SALTT director, said participation from Andrews has grown this season, with five teams competing.
Conway High’s Gage Fortson and Jacob Richardson nabbed the top spot in the bass division with a five-fish total of 9.95 pounds and the big fish of 3.57 pounds. Fortson and Richardson won the redfish division of the first SALTT event of the season.
Rounding out the top 11 were: second, T.J. McKenzie and Mike Paglio of Waccamaw High School, five-fish total of 8.52 pounds; third, Ben Cooper and Todd Howard of Conway High, five-fish total of 7.54 pounds; fourth, Gabe Brown and Stephen Smith of Aynor High School, five-fish total of 7.38 pounds; fifth, Austin Winburn and Cooper Harrelson of Whittemore Park Middle, four-fish total of 6.77 pounds; sixth, Allen Ledford and Colton Ledford of Forestbrook Middle School, five-fish total of 6.74 pounds; seventh, Blake Thompson of Conway High, three-fish total of 6.09 pounds; eighth, Jacob Tester of Waccamaw High and Bennet Lawshe of Georgetown High, four-fish total of 5.41 pounds; ninth, Will Hucks and Trent Hucks of Conway Christian School, three-fish total of 4.52 pounds; 10th, McKenley Hucks of Conway High and Manning Felder AAST, one 1.98-pound fish; 11th Andrew Ackerman and Jeremy Owens of Georgetown Middle School, one 1.71-pound fish.
Overall trail awards were also handed out Saturday.
High school reds: Henry Poston of AAST and Benjamin Biddle of Blackwater Middle.
Middle school reds: Noah Payne and Kadyn Kellahan of Rosemary Middle.
High school bass: Blake Thompson and River Squires of Conway High.
Middle school bass: Austin Winburn and Harrelson Cooper of Whittemore Park Middle.
