On Tuesday, Aug. 6, Rosemary Alumni awarded three of Andrews High School graduates scholarships to assist with some of their educational expenses.

The award service was held in Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church’s banquet hall in Andrews, where Michael Cannon is the pastor.

The speaker of the event was Rosemary Alumni member Rovena Vanderhorst.

She reminded the recipients that life is an incredible gift and as they stand on the brink of a new chapter in their lives, they will encounter some bumps and bruises along the way, but they must choose to do their best.

“Never allow yourselves to be caged by your fears, whether real or perceived, “Vanderhorst said.

“Don’t be limited by the expectation of others, but stay focused on your goals. The people who will make a great impact in your life are not always the ones with the most credentials, money, awards or recognition; only those who will be there to encourage you when times are difficult, frustrating and demanding.”

Contributions to the Rosemary Alumni Scholarship Fund are regularly accepted, and the alumni also host a banquet once a year.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. in the banquet hall of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church located at 1207 Martin Luther King Drive in Andrews.

The event will include dinner and entertainment and dress code is semi-formal. Donations are $15.
