Selena Mae Funny Cohen died on August 19, 2019 in Hickory, North Carolina. Funeral services were held on August 24, 2019 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Plantersville Community, Reverend John F. Sumpter, pastor.
Mrs. Cohen was born on November 15, 1946 in the Plantersville Community of Georgetown, SC, to Mr. James Funny, Sr. and Mrs. Sadie Grice Funny. She graduated from Choppee High School in 1965, and later married her high school sweetheart. Selena held several career positions including with an International Telemarketing Company in New Haven, CT, and Goodwill Industries, Hickory, NC. In early youth she joined Bethel A.M.E. Church where the family worshiped. She was a faithful member of St. Paul U.A.M.E. Church, New Haven, CT, Hartzell United Methodist Church, Hickory, NC. Selena was also actively involved in civic organizations throughout her community.
Surviving are her son, Deitrich Cohen, New Haven, CT; her father, James Funny, Sr., Georgetown, SC; her siblings, Janie Underwood and Pastor Betty F. Vereen both of Conway, SC, Nancy Funny, Stockbridge, GA, John Funny and Kennedy Funny, both of Atlanta, GA, Holly Funny of Conover, NC, Jocephus Funny, New York, NY and Willie Funny of Dallas, TX. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
Carrie Bell Smith Duncan died on August 17, 2019 in Georgetown, South Carolina. Funeral services were held on August 24, 2019 at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Sampit Community, Reverend Kelly Spann II, pastor.
Mrs. Duncan was born on July 20, 1932 in the Santee Community of Georgetown, SC, to Mr. Jerry Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Queen Victoria Hamilton Smith. Her secular education was received in the Georgetown County Public School System. On February 16, 1966 Carrie was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Leroy Duncan. She was a devout member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, and belonged to various organizations including Ruth Tent #4. Carrie was a homemaker to her family, and later she became a domestic worker until her retirement in 1991.
Surviving are her children, Eric L. Duncan (Debbie), Anthony Duncan, and Lavette Deas (Steven), all of Georgetown, SC; her siblings, Frank Smith, West Ashley, SC and Helen Riley of Georgetown, SC; nieces she reared as her own, Kathy D. Gamble (Ervin), Sheila Weathers, Trecie Lee (Ross), and Denise Singleton all of Georgetown, SC. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
Ann Marie Rose
Ann M. Rose, 95 of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019. She was born September 5, 1923 in Madison, NJ to the late Neil and Elsie Lepre. She is of the Catholic Faith, a member of the Moose Lodge, the NJREA and retired from the Morristown Schools after 45 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Rose, two daughters; Jean McCracken and June Ann Demeritt, one son, Harry Jones, sister Mary Egerer and brother Neil “Walt” Lepre.
No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation is under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith, AR
Ann is survived by her daughter Leona Caputo of Fort Smith, two sons; Gilbert Jones and wife Kathy of Georgetown, SC and Richard Jones and wife Dottie of Pueblo West, CO. She is also survived by six Grandchildren and many Great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
