The Andrews High School softball team beat Landrum 3-1 on Thursday night to win the Class AA state title. It's the fifth softball title in school history.
The Lady Yellow Jackets got on the board first when Ashley Evans led off the second inning with a home run. Andrews added two runs in the third inning. Faith Callaway doubled, advanced when Camie Samson reached on an error, and scored on a fielder's choice by Carlynn Harper. Samson then scored on a wild pitch.
Landrum scored its only run in the bottom of third inning on a lead-off home run.
It's the first title for Coach Mary Ellen Morris, who played softball for Andrews until graduating in 2009.
Andrews also won state softball titles in 1980, 1981, 1998 and 1999. The last title for an athletic team at the school was boys track in 2008.
