Pawleys Island home destroyed by fire early Saturday

Provided Midway Fire Rescue personnel continue to pour water on hot spots after fire destroyed a house on Atlantic Avenue on Pawleys Island early Saturday morning.

Midway Fire Rescue responded to an early morning house fire at 216 Atlantic Ave. in Pawleys Island Saturday.

Pawleys Island Mayor Bill Otis told the Georgetown Times that the home burned to the ground and the cause of the fire was unknown at this time.

“It was a total loss, but Midway was able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading,” Otis said.

Pawleys Island Police Chief Mike Fanning told the Times that his department, along with Midway Fire Rescue, is currently in the process of responding to a roof in the road along Myrtle Avenue.

“We have a roof from a home that is on the road on Myrtle Avenue,” Fanning said. “We have called Midway in to help us clear it from the road.”

Fanning also reported that cell phone customers are having service issues on the island.

“We are having problems with our cell phones out here,” Fanning said. “Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.”
