In a letter sent to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, George Oldroyd announced his resignation from the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District’s Board of Directors where he served as the chairman.
Oldroyd sent the letter on August 14 and announced his resignation was effective immediately. He gave no indication in the letter as to the reason for his resignation.
In a written statement, Assistant Fire Chief J.R. Haney said, “After 15 years of dedicated volunteer service as a member of the Board of Directors for the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District, George J. Oldroyd has stepped down from his position on the Board. The Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District is grateful for his service to our community, as well as to our staff. We wish Mr. Oldroyd the best in life and offer our heartfelt gratitude for his commitment to the Fire Service as a whole.”
The Board had been scrutinized recently for not conducting financial audits for four years between 2014 and 2017.
