The body of a man was found in a home destroyed by an early-morning fire in Plantersville Friday.
Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway said the body is that of 62-year-old Jefferson Vanderhorst.
Officials believe he was the only person living in the 2,500-square-foot brick home at the corner of Genesis Drive and Annie Village Road.
Georgetown County Fire responded to the call around 12:45 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Tony Hucks. The fire was knocked down around 3 a.m.
Hucks said flames were through the roof of the home when firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Hucks said it may take a while to determine what started the fire due to the extent of damage to the home.
No firefighters were injured battling the blaze. Mutual aid was provided by Midway Fire Rescue and Horry County Fire.
The State Law Enforcement Division is also investigating, as is custom when a body is found in a fire.
