Robert "Robbie" Andrew Assey, age 64, born April 20, 1949, "The unofficial Mayor of Georgetown" left this earth on Friday, November 22, 2013, to be with his parents, Dr. John T. Assey and Helen Maguire Assey, his brother, Dr. Michael E. Assey, and his aunts, Mamie Delzell and Rosa Lilly.
He leaves behind three brothers, John Adrian and his wife, Ruth of Nashville, Tenn., James M. Assey and his wife, Joan of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. Timothy Assey and his wife, Dianne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; his sister, Jane Assey and sister-in-law, Valerie Assey of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition, Robbie adored each and every one of his four nephews and seven nieces, who will serve as pallbearers for Robbie's service.
All of his family will miss him terribly, but feel so very blessed to have been a part of the life of this wonderfully special man!
He loved the USC Gamecocks, the Dallas Cowboys, wrestling, bowling, golf, bingo, Elvis, Johnny Cash, and all kinds of music, especially country. He loved "his people" which included everyone.
Although our hearts are breaking right now, we draw strength from knowing that his life was a unique gift to us all. We will be eternally grateful that he was a part of our lives for so long.
Goodnight, Sweet Prince, rest easy now. Your work is done. You fought the good fight. We all look forward to seeing you again, and are comforted by the words you told us so often, "I'm right here!"
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 in St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Roman Catholic Church, 317 Broad Street, Georgetown.
Interment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery, 1601 Highmarket Street, Georgetown.

Linda Ann McClary Scott, age 70, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at her home.
Born on April 27, 1943, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of Mary Magdalene Bowles McClary and the late Joseph Zeno McClary.
Mrs. Scott was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and retired from International Paper Company after more than 30 years of service.
Survivors include her mother of Georgetown; three children, Lisa Johnson (Joey) of Georgetown, Jerry Scott of Florence and Robin Bech (Chris) of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Jeremy Scott, Abbey Bech and Joseph Bech; four step-grandchildren, Ryan, Breanna, Billy and Brittany; a sister, Betty Burch (Richard) of Lake City; a brother, Richard McClary of Columbia; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Herman McCray of Georgetown.
Funeral services was held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at Lakewood Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Deeter officiating.
Burial followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edward Ernest Thornley, age 79, of Georgetown died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Thornley was born in Moncks Corner on January 2, 1934, a son of the late Ernest Leroy Thornley and Maidia Tarte Thornley.
He grew up in the Hell Hole Swamp community of Berkeley Co. and graduated from Macedonia High School.
Mr. Thornley served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company and was a television repairman.
He was a former member of Providence Baptist Church in Moncks Corner and Graves Southern Baptist Church in Georgetown, where he served as a Deacon.
Mr. Thornley was currently a member of Pawleys Island Community Church.
He loved Bible studies and discipleship at the church and was working through John Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion.
Mr. Thornley had a love for wood working, model airplanes, electronics and all things pertaining to aviation.
He had an insatiable curiosity about how everything worked.
Mr. Thornley loved all animals, especially cats, but his favorite was his ox Bumble Bee that he had as a boy growing up.
Mr. Thornley was very devoted to his wife Shirley, his boys, and grandchildren. He gave his children a great foundation for life and was a great provider.
He was predeceased by: a brother, Roy Thornley; and a sister, Evelyn Patrick.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ann Miller Thornley of Georgetown; two sons, Colin P. Thornley of Ashville, N.C. and Chaplain (Major) Andrew L. Thornley (Leigh) of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Jesse, Sarah, Abigail, and Rachel Thornley.; a great-granddaughter, Audrey; and a brother-in-law, Bryan Patrick.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, 2013, at Pawleys Island Community Church Chapel.
Officiating will be Dr. Philip Comfort, Rev. Colin P. Thornley, Chaplain (Major) Andrew L. Thornley, Elder Mike Goude, and Rev. Mike King.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Thornley Memorial Cemetery in Moncks Corner.
