Tarrence Ackerman

Tarrence Julia Smith Ackerman, 86, of Andrews, a beloved mother and the widow of Clifford Ackerman, went home to be with the Lord Saturday evening, October 8, 2011, at the McLeod Health System, Florence, S.C.

Mrs. Ackerman was born the daughter of Jacob Tarrence Smith and Julia Ann Small Smith on April 20, 1925 in Lancaster County.

She was a retired service technician with Oneita Industries.  

She committed her life to acts of selfless giving, fervent prayer, and unconditional love to earn her the distinguished title – Beloved Mother.  

Julia and Clifford were married on April 30, 1943 and celebrated 43 years together.

From their blessed union survives: a son, Clifford Dennis (Gail) Ackerman; a daughter, Virginia (Ray) Ackerman Gray;  four grandchildren, Walt (Lisa) Ackerman, Wade Ackerman, Briana (Darian) Fennell, and Brian Gray; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Ackerman, Christian Fennell, and Hunter Fennell.

She was predeceased by her husband; six sisters, Addie Canupp, Nell Quick, Ida Ramsey, Mary Rhyner, Rhett Smith, and Lois Lucas; one brother, Jacob Smith.

A Celebration of Life and Christian Legacy was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Pine Crest Baptist Church with interment following in the Oak Ridge Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, October 10, 2011, at the Andrews Chapel.

Dorothy Browne

Dorothy Ester Browne, 83, of Georgetown died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Born in New York, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie Mae Braley Lewis.

Dorothy was a retired school bus driver for Mexico School System in Mexico, N.Y.

She was a very loving, caring and giving person.

She enjoyed traveling and fishing.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Marie Bivens; five brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Lawson Browne of Georgetown; a daughter, Jackie Burdick of Georgetown; a brother, John Lewis Pulaski of New York; a son-in-law, Edward Bivens of Mt. Olive, N.C.; six grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John Powell

John Timothy Powell, 48, of Andrews, beloved son and brother and devoted father, departed this life on Sunday evening, October 9, 2011.

Mr. Powell was born the son of Donald Daniels Powell, Sr. and Mildred Lillian Wheeler Powell on July 8, 1963 in Georgetown, S.C.

He was an employee of International Paper Company and was an avid outdoorsman excelling in fishing and hunting.

Mr. Powell leaves behind his mother; a daughter, Brittany D. Powell; a brother, Donald “Donnie” (Nancy) Powell, Jr.; two sisters, Carolyn (Lewis) P. McKenzie, and Kathy (Larry) P. Alford.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Daniels Powell, Sr.

A Farewell Salute to John will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Earles Pentecostal Holiness Church with interment following in the church cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, October 11, 2011, at the Andrews Chapel.

Michael Pruett

Michael C. Pruett, 15, of Andrews, the beloved son of Thomas and Loretta (Lorie) Nemier Pruett, passed away Saturday morning, October 8, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Pruett was born December 7, 1995 in Syracuse, N.Y.

He was a 10th grader at Andrews High School.

He leaves behind his parents; maternal grandfather, Charles H. Nemier of Boylston, N.Y.; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Beverly Pruett of Sandy Hook, Va.; an uncle, Marvin Nemier of Boylston, N.Y.; an aunt, Michelle Rodriguez of Richmond, Va.; and much loved great aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, October 11, 2011, at the Andrews Church of God, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Funeral Services and burial will be held at a later date in New York.
