One person was killed and others were were injured when lightning struck a tree in rural Georgetown County Thursday afternoon.
The deceased is 44-year-old Ryan Gamble of Andrews, according to Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway. Two other people were transported to Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Reports said 12 people were next to a tree when it was struck by lightning in the area of Lawshe Plantation off Indian Hut Road in the central part of the county northeast of Andrews. The area is along the Black River.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. as isolated storms passed over the region.
