Residents and visitors of Murrells Inlet are gearing up for the Fall Haul on Sat., Sept. 13.
Participants for this cleanup event will meet at Crazy Sister Marina tiki hut at 8:30 a.m. or K-Rae’s restaurant at Wacca Wache Marina at 8:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand.
Kayaks, trash bags, gloves, nets and other cleanup equipment will be available.
This event is in conjunction with the SC DNR Annual Beach & River Sweep. Murrells Inlet 2020 is teaming up with local partners to host a Creek & River Sweep in Murrells Inlet.
“It’s time to rid our creek and streets of summer trash left behind,” said Sean Bond, chair of Murrells Inlet 2020 and organizer of the event.
“Let’s show up, let’s clean up and let’s enjoy our backyard with less litter. We invite residents, our school teachers, the restaurants and our businesses to organize your team to donate two hours for the Fall Haul.”
He said this is an mini-version of Spring Tide, an annual cleanup event held in Murrells Inlet in April.
“There will be no chowder, barbecue or T-shirts like Spring Tide,” Bond said.
“It is just for cleaning up our neighborhood.”
He said there are key areas that collect trash and debris, including along the seawall in front of the Marsh Walk restaurants.
Bond reminds participants to dress appropriately, and to bring gloves, boots and bug spray.
