Two people died in separate wrecks in recent days in rural Georgetown County.
The first incident happened on Thursday afternoon when a man was thrown from his motorcycle on Rose Hill Road near Tara Hall.
Xavier Haynes, 35, died at the scene of the accident, according to Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway.
The Highway Patrol said Haynes was traveling west around 3:40 p.m. when his Suzuki bike ran off the right side of the road and then hit a ditch and a road sign. He was not wearing a helmet, according to officials.
The second fatal crash happened early Sunday morning when a car struck a tree on Mt. Zion Avenue in the Santee area.
The victim was identified as 39-year-old Loverne Deas of Georgetown.
The Highway Patrol said Deas was driving west on Mt. Zion when his Honda sedan ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree. He died at East Cooper Medical Center.
Deas was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 5:43 a.m.
As of Monday, both incidents remained under investigation.
The incidents were the second and third fatal wrecks in Georgetown County this year. In 2018, there were four fatal accidents in the county through the same period, according to the Highway Patrol. In 2017, the figure was 10.
