An two-vehicle accident in the Sampit community Thursday claimed two lives.

A man and his granddaughter were killed in the accident on Pennyroyal Road on Thursday afternoon. Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson has identified the deceased as 59-year-old Charles Lewis Bazen and 2-year-old Annabella Jordan.

At around 3 p.m. near Cumberland AME Church, a driver of a 2019 Toyota Camry ran off the right side of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. It came back onto the roadway and struck a Chevrolet S10 Pick-up truck head-on. Bazen and Jordan were in the pickup truck.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the SC Highway Patrol, the driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
