Higginbotham Automobiles, a family-owned company, recently acquired Tidelands Ford Lincoln in Pawleys Island.
The acquisition marks Higginbotham’s return to the region as it previously owned and operated the Mercedes-Benz and BMW dealerships in Myrtle Beach. Under Higginbotham ownership Mercedes-Benz of Myrtle Beach was honored as Best of the Best, an distinction reserved for the brand’s top dealerships.
Higginbotham bought Tidelands Ford Lincoln from the Paglio family, the long-time owners. The new owners said they plan to continue the Paglio’s community involvement endeavors. The dealership has approximately 50 employees.
“Higginbotham Automobiles focuses on providing a premier experience for customers, both in the purchase and maintenance of their vehicles,” said Joshua Bauer, Higginbotham Automobiles vice president. “Our customer centric philosophy applies across every brand we sell and dealership we own.
“We are truly ecstatic about being back in this region. We know the market, the clientele and their needs, which will make this a smooth transition.”
The purchase was completed in early April and the new owners have plans for making improvements to the facility, located at 9387 Ocean Highway. Renovations to the service area have already begun, including installing air conditioning, improving lighting and adding all new lifts.
The Higginbotham family began in the automotive business in Florida in the 1990s, and today owns and operates Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the Memphis, Tennessee, and Jackson, Mississippi, metro areas. Both of those dealerships in 2018 were honored as Best of the Best by Mercedes Benz.
“We wanted to diversify the brands we offer, and Ford is an iconic name in American automotive history and design,” said Bauer. “Ford will allow us to offer clientele a wide range of vehicles with differing styles and price points. And Lincoln has deservingly built a reputation as one of this country’s luxury automobiles.
“The ability to diversify and return to this part of South Carolina is a win-win for us. We plan to market the entire region, from Myrtle Beach to Charleston and provide consumers a positive experience," he said.
