A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to a person reported missing in Georgetown County.
Theophilus Xavier Berry is charged with killing 18-year-old Ja'Quan Collins, who was reported missing on May 22, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office has confirmed the case is connected to a body that was found Friday along Walker Road in southern Georgetown County. On Monday, The Georgetown County Coroner's Office confirmed the body was Collins. An autopsy determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Berry was taken into custody Friday. He is also charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Family members told deputies that Collins had not returned phone calls. He was last seen on May 21 on Mount Zion Road driving a silver, four-door 1998 Honda Accord.
"Through an extensive investigation, it was determined that Collins was likely the victim of a homicide," the Sheriff's Office said.
The investigation is ongoing.
