A Georgetown County correctional officer has been charged with sexual misconduct with an inmate at the county's jail.
Kasey Gamble, 31, is charged with first degree sexual misconduct in office, the Sheriff's Office said in a press release. She was arrested Thursday morning.
The Sheriff's Office said the investigation began Wednesday after "disturbing information" about a possible relationship between Gamble and an inmate was presented to officials at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
"Detention Center officials were presented with a multitude of letters which were discovered outside the confines of the Detention Center" and written to Gamble from an inmate. Another correctional officer gave the letters to officials, the Sheriff's Office said.
The letters did not name Gamble, but included content describing a sexual relationship between a male inmate and a correctional officer. The letters described plans for marriage and children, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Officials interviewed the inmate, who confessed to writing the letters and having a relationship with Gamble. An investigator interviewed multiple witnesses before an arrest warrant for Gamble was issued. She was interrogated Thursday morning and admitted to the relationship, the Sheriff's Office said.
Gamble was released from her job as a correctional officer and booked into the jail. She'd been employed there since January 2018, the Sheriff's Office said.
