Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson announced that on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, a teen will be tried as an adult for an incident that occurred in July in Surfside Beach.

A hearing was held Wednesday before the Honorable Family Court Judge Jan B. Bromell Holmes, who ruled the juvenile will be tried as an adult in General Sessions Court, said Lauren Vinson, the assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Nicholas O. Rios, 16, of Horry County, will be prosecuted as an adult on charges of attempted murder; first-degree criminal sexual conduct; first-degree burglary; and kidnapping in the July 19, 2019, incident involving a 71-year-old woman in Surfside Beach.

“We felt the seriousness of the crime called for the case to be prosecuted in General Sessions Court,” Vinson said.
