On August 8, Food Lion was in Andrews giving away free food to anyone who stopped by their tent situated at 102 Main St. between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The event was part of Food Lion’s “Random Acts of Freshness” campaign working in conjunction with Georgetown County. They will continue popping up at various locations throughout the Georgetown County area during the months of August and September. The Andrews event was the first of the Georgetown.
Random Acts of Freshness, operated by Food Lion’s marketing department, serves two purposes. First, it provides free food to the community and assists residents who may be struggling to keep food in the house. Second, it introduces healthy food concepts to the community.
“We’ve partnered with Food Lion to help get citizens of Georgetown County a little healthier, to provide free fruits, vegetables and snacks to promote a little healthier lifestyle,” said Randy Akers, a representative of Georgetown County who was on hand.
The pop-up food stands provide fruits and vegetables, healthy items that are sometimes overlooked in the American diet. Oat-based snack bars are also available. Additionally, the Random Acts of Freshness campaign presents the opportunity for residents to try healthy foods that may be unfamiliar such as hummus, which was available at the Andrews stand.
In addition to free food, reusable tote bags with a clever slogan were given out as well.
The bags read, “Fresh from my head to-ma-toes.”
