Litchfield I love Lucy

As part of their 1950s experience, members of the Lakes at Litchfield got to stomp grapes in recognition of the classic ‘I Love Lucy’ bit.

Seniors at The Lakes at Litchfield, a retirement community on Pawleys Island, recently jetted back to the fifties during their Signature Experience in August. The community’s “1950s Day!” Signature Experience focused on the classic Americana of the time period and transported everyone back in time with themed food, fitness and fun!

“Planning this event was a lot of hard work for our team because we want to get the details perfect,” said Social Director, Lena Oncken. “They lived through the fifties and we want to bring back the nostalgia of this time period for them.”

All the hard work, though, pays off, according to Oncken.

“It’s such a treat to see all of our Members connect with each other, and they’re able to attend activities, sit down with friends for a meal and enjoy the community that they call home,” she said.

Throughout their Signature Experience, Members of The Lakes at Litchfield took part in activities and events with blasts from the past. As a precursor to the big day, they participated in exercise classes themed around the hit television show, ‘I Love Lucy.’ Attendees stomped grapes and picked out chocolates from the famous ‘Chocolate Factory’ scene.

The big day began with “Workin’ at the Cart Wash” where The Lakes at Litchfield leadership team washed community member golf carts and decked them out with fuzzy dice, name decals and golf ball keychains. DJ Stephen Craig entertained guests with 50s music while they sipped gourmet milkshakes and strolled through a classic car show of American muscle and prestige.

The grand finale was a classic 50s Diner. Members entered the community’s signature restaurant which was transformed into a retro 1950s diner complete with red and white plaid tablecloths, while Coca-Cola cans full of flowers, 45 records, and milkshake glasses adorned the tables. Of course, a diner meal isn’t complete without your classic diner favorites. The menu for the evening included a Fried Bologna Sandwich, Monte Cristo Sandwich, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chili Cheese Fries and more.

Members of The Lakes at Litchfield enjoy Signature Experiences every month.
