The St. Marks Bloomingvale Community Development Corporation (CDC) received a gift of $3,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation.
St. Marks Bloomingvale CDC works to enrich the lives of those in the community with supplemental food assistance while also offering nutrition education. The CDC operates out of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Andrews. They provide food items to community members in need on the second Friday and fourth Tuesday of every month.
The donation from Food Lion will enable St. Marks Bloominvale CDC to increase their ability to provide fresh, healthy foods to the community by 25 percent.
“We are very appreciative of the generosity of the Food Lion Feeds Foundation gift to help us bring healthy fresh produce, breads, meats, and shelf stable products to those in our community who are having to make difficult financial choices between providing adequate, healthy, nutritious meals for their families and paying for other household expenses such as medications and health care, utilities and rent,” says Silverteen Mitchum, Director of St. Marks Bloomingvale CDC.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial assistance to organizations and programs dedicated to feeding those in need of food in the communities in which they reside. The foundation has awarded over $12 million in funding.
