The Georgetown Soil and Water Conservation District holds an annual essay contest to encourage an appreciation and understanding of the importance of natural resources. This year, the essay topic was “Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper.”

Essay participants explored the many ways in which healthy soil impacts our daily lives in regards to food, clothing, water and homes. They were challenged to understand the connection between healthy soil and healthy individuals.

Judging was challenging among the 63 essays. However, two winners were ultimately picked from Georgetown School of Arts and Sciences as well as Waccamaw Intermediate School.

Morgan Edwards received first place at Georgetown SAS while Marion Dickerson received the second place award. Towsend Crosby was awarded first place at Waccamaw and Gabriella Rana took second place.

Mrs. Frechette, of Waccamaw Intermediate School also received an award for submitting the most essays.
