Fourteen community leaders graduated from the 27th Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Georgetown County” program.
Members of the graduating class were Ken Crawford, Katie Vause, Jessica Johnson, Christopher Wallace, Jessica McCarren, Timothy Laugh, Iricia Holmes, Dedric Bonds, John Bullard, Devon Smith, Deana Cooper, Marie Livingston, Amy Mitchell and Deborah Barr.
Participants meet on a monthly basis for 10 months to examine social, economic and political issues within Georgetown County. The curriculum is designed to provide hands-on experience dealing with community issues while learning from other influential leaders.
As part of the annual program, the class must create and implement a civic engagement project. The 27th LGC selected selected Andrews Youth and Community Enrichment Council as the subject of their project and have set a goal of raising $3,000 through local business donations to purchase entertainment items and furnishings for the AYCEC’s youth center which provides after-school opportunities for the Andrews community. Some of the funding is also budgeted to fund a back-to-school party to unveil the new additions to the youth center.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 Leadership Georgetown County program which begins in September.
