Georgetown Belles headed to third straight state tournament

The Georgetown Belles outscored their opponents 59-7 and won the District 1 tournament in Latta last week.

The Belles opened the tournament with a 14-3 win over Latta. Paigelyn Adams, Hallie Butler, Anna James and Carolyn Goodwin combined to pitch a one-hitter. Adams got the win.

Taylor Graham went 3-for-3 with a home run, James went 2-for-2, Butler went 1-for-3, Hannah McLean and Adams went 1-for-3, and Krista Wendell went 1-for-3 with a home run.

Butler pitched three shutout innings to lead the Belles to a 26-3 win over Marion in game two.

The Belles had 18 hits in the game.

Taylor Howell went 3-for-3, Brooks Cribb and James went 2-for-3, Alyssa Kozma went went 2-for-2, Graham went 2-for-3 with a home run, Butler went 2-for-3, Adams went 1-for-1, and Wendell and McLean went 1-for-2.

James pitched four shutout innings to lead the Belles to a 19-1 win over Latta in the championship game.

Goodwin went 3-for-3, McLean and Butler went 2-for-3, Kozma and Graham went 1-for-2, Wendell went 1-for-1, and Kari Oliver went 1-for-3.

For the tournament, Graham batted .700, James .667, Butler .625, Wendell .600, Kozma and Goodwin .500, McLean .375, and Howell .333.

Five Belles pitches gave up only 11 hits - all singles - in the three games.

The Belles start their third straight state tournament in Dillon on July 13. They were runners-up last year.
