County athletes bring home four state track titles

Waccamaw High School's Grace Barnett won three state Class AA titles at the state track meet on Saturday at Spring Valley High School.

Barnett won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meters, and was part of the 4x800-meter relay team, along with Mackenzie Arnold, Kristina Chandler and Amelia Jones, that placed second.

"Grace Barnett is a beast on the track," said Waccamaw girls coach Robert Del Bagno.

Jones also finished fourth in the 3,200-meters.

Other Warriors who competed at state were: Jamaica Alston, who finished fifth in the 200-meters; and Valencia Syndab, who was fourth in the shot put. Alston, Jasmine Torrence, Brianna Brooks and Kristina Chandler finished third in the 4x400-meter relay.

The Waccamaw girls team finished second.

"The track coaches at WHS are all very proud of the entire team and appreciate their hard work all season long," Del Bagno said. "The sky is the limit with this young talented group of ladies."



Carvers Bay



Randy Dozier, Rakiem Palmer, Rayshod Pittman and Devin Cuttino won the 4x100-meter relay for the Bears.

Pittman also finished sixth in the 400-meters.

Other Carvers Bay results from the state meet: Da'Shaun Aiken, third in the long jump and eighth in the high jump; Joe Brown, fifth in the 800- and 1,600-meters; Davin Young, fifth in the 400-meter hurdles and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles; Desmond Sumpter, sixth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump; and Cuttino, Pittman, Young and Brown, sixth in the 4x400-meter relay.

Carvers Bay's boys finished third and the Lady Bears finished 10th.

Desaree Green was third in the high jump; Jasmine Cobb was fourth in the 800-meters; Zaria Blain was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles; Amber Linnen was fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 400-meters; Cobb, Ijanai Haynes, Shaakris Mention and Tiera Young, Jasmine Cobb were fifth in the 4x800-meter relay; Haynes was eighth in the 1,600-meters; and Cobb, Blain, Linnen and Young were eighth in the 4x400-meter relay.



Andrews



The Yellow Jackets' boys team finished 26th in Class AA and the girls finished 21st.

Jaleel Filmore finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles; Tionne White, Tanaze' Clark, Christina Wragg and Ni'Asha Dorsey finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay; and Phylicia Grant was third in the discus.



Georgetown



The Bulldogs' boys team finished 28th in Class AAA.

Donnell Blackstock was seventh in the 100-meters and 200-meters; and Blackstock, Trenton Grate-Reed, Tevin Johnson and Tarik Tucker were seventh in the 4x100-meter relay.
