Voters return to the polls tomorrow

  • Tuesday, June 26, 2012

It’s back to the polls Tuesday to finally decide which two candidates will make it to the November ballot in the race for the new District 7 Congressional seat.
On the Republican side, Andre Bauer faces Tom Rice while Gloria Tinubu and Preston Brittain face each other in the Democratic Primary.
Anyone can vote in Tuesday’s runoffs but if you voted two weeks ago you must vote in  the same party primary tomorrow.
While the Republican runoff was set in stone from the beginning, the question of whether or not there would be a Democratic runoff was not answered until Friday.
That is when Judge Larry Hyman ruled the votes cast two weeks ago for Ted Vick — who dropped out of the race in May — would count.
That meant Tinubu received less than 50% of the vote, forcing tomorrow’s runoff.
The new 7th Congressional District includes Georgetown and Horry counties and all or parts of Florence, Marion, Dillon, Marlboro, Chesterfield and Darlington counties.
In his order issued at noon Friday, Hyman directed that for the Democratic Primary, votes for all candidates should be counted.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday.
