Motorcyclist killed in early morning accident (updated)

An accident early Sunday morning claimed the life of a local barber.
The accident happened at about 12:10 a.m., according to Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson.
He said 38 year old Tevies Burroughs of 1776 Calhoun Street was killed when the motorcycle he was riding ran into the back of a vehicle.
“He was not wearing a helmet,” Johnson said.
Accordng to Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown, Burroughs was driving “at a high rate of speed” when his motorcycle hit a 2002 Nissan four-door being driven by 37 year old Travers Alston of Grate Ave. in Pawleys Island.
He said Alston was attempting to make a right-hand turn at the corner of Merriman Road and Gilbert Street when Burroughs hit him from behind.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was called in to help investigate the accident.
