Five petition candidates, so far, certified to be on November ballot

  • Saturday, August 4, 2012

Most of the people who turned in petitions to run for office as a petition candidate in Georgetown County have been declared eligible to run.
Since July 16, Georgetown County Elections Director Donna Mahn and her staff have been checking the more than 20,000 signatures turned in by the eight potential candidates to make sure enough of the people who signed are registered voters and live in the district.
As of Friday, five candidates had been notified they will be on the November ballot. They are:
Tammie Avant, running for clerk of court against incumbent Democrat Alma White.
Tom Winslow, who will face incumbent Democrat Carl Anderson for S.C. House Seat 103.
Ben Dunn, running for Georgetown County Council District 5.
Bubba Grimes, also running for the District 5 County Council seat.
Mark Johnson, running for the Soil and Water Conservation District.
The candidates who petitions still need to be verified are Rod Stalvey and Kathy Harrrelson, both running for county auditor; Mike Andrews, running for county treasurer; and Darryel Carr, running for sheriff.
Mahn said she is hoping the final verifications can be completed by Wednesday, although her office has until Aug. 15 to finish the process.
