First 'Chapel at the Park' service held

  • Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Knowing that many families who traveled to Georgetown for this week’s Dixie World Series would be away from their churches on Sunday, members of local churches stepped in to help fill that void.
A recently formed ministry, known as Chapel at the Park, was started by people from different churches all over Georgetown County.
The group plans to hold services on Sunday mornings each time there is a tournament going on at the new 8 Oaks Park.
The services take place near the ballfields of the complex.
Local resident Robert Cox led Sunday’s inaugural service. After welcoming those in attendance, he turned the stage over to a group of singers — headed by local musician Bryan Bone — who led the audience in a time of praise and worship.
A short devotion was delivered by Melissa Harper.
Her husband, Justin Harper — one of the organizers — said people from seven different states attended Sunday’s 45-minute service.
Along with the service, those in attendance were also treated to a Hardee’s biscuit breakfast.
The next Chapel at the Park is this Sunday at 9 a.m. during this weekend’s tournament.
