Congressional runoffs OKd for Tuesday
Monday, June 25, 2012
Judge Larry Human ruled on Friday that Republican and Democratic runoffs will be held for the 7th Congressional District.
By early afternoon the State Election Commission determined it would not appeal Hyman's decision and said that both parties' primaries will be held on Tuesday, June 26.
The Republican runoff between Andr Bauer and Tom Rice will be held on Tuesday.
For the Democratic runoff, Gloria Bromell Tinubu will face Preston Brittain.
The new 7th Congressional District includes Georgetown and Horry counties and all or parts of Florence, Marion, Dillon, Marlboro, Chesterfield and Darlington counties.
In his order issued at noon Friday, Hyman directed that for the Democratic Primary, votes for all candidates should be counted.
In the June 12 primary Tinubu received the most votes but did not receive a majority since votes for Vick were counted.
Ted Vick earlier withdrew from the race. That came after he was arrested in Columbia for DUI and possession of a concealed weapon whose permit to carry was expired.
Even so, about 2,300 votes were cast for Vick in the June 12 primary. Hyman ruled that those votes had to be counted in order to determine whether anyone got a majority.
Vote totals June 12
Preston Brittain -- 12,303 -- 36.7%
Parnell Diggs -- 1,406 -- 4.2%
Harry Pavilack -- 1,130 -- 3.4%
Gloria Bromell Tinubu -- 16.384 -- 48.8%
Ted Vick -- 2,341 -- 7.0%
Polls will open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
If you voted in the June 12 primary, you may vote in the runoff for the same party.
If you did not vote on June 12, you may vote in either the Republican or Democrat runoff.
