Fire at International Paper Co. extinguished

  • Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Georgetown County and Midway firefighters assisted the International Paper Company's fire department with a fire in a pile of wood chips inside the plant this evening. Firefighters were called to the scene at about 6:15 p.m., according to County Assistant Fire Chief Tony Hucks. He said the chip pile underground caught fire and the plant's on-site firefighters had the fire pretty well contained when the county crews got on the scene. By 7:30 p.m. the fire was out and the firefighters had cleared the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
