Glenn Adams

Glenn Hugh Adams, age 60, passed away peacefully Wed., Aug. 13, 2014 at Tidelands Community Hospice in Georgetown. Mr. Adams was born on May 4, 1954 in Conway, the son of Margaret Hughes Adams and Wallace Maston Adams and grew up in the small town of Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside, England.

Mr. Adams was pre-deceased by his son Patrick Glenn Adams. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams is survived by his daughter: Candace Joy Adams, step-son: Danny (Julie) Burt, Jr. and step-daughter: Kelly (Robbie) Cox, two sisters: Brenda (Johnny) Freeman and Denise (Edward) Bradford, two brothers: David (Patricia) Adams and Gary (Angela) Adams, grandchildren: Joshua, Victoria, Sydney, Patrick and TJ and step-grandchildren: Danny III, Taylor and Christopher as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Service for the family will be private. A Celebration of Life was held at The Islander Sports Pub in Pawleys Island on Sat., Aug. 23, 2014 at 6 p.m..

Burroughs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Driggers

Robert Owens “Uncle Bob” Driggers, 79, widower of Louise Powers Driggers, passed away on Fri., Aug. 15, 2014 at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Born on Nov. 2, 1934, in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late George Mosley Driggers and the late Lizzy Furtick Driggers. Mr. Driggers was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church and was a US Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Driggers was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed wood carving and spending time with his family.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Driggers (Geri) of Stockton, CA; two nieces, Angela Goodwin (Bruce) of Glen Burnie, MD and Dawn P. Elliott (Eric Hemeon) of Georgetown; five nephews, Ray Driggers (Brenda) of Summerville, Joe Bauernfeind of Glen Burnie, MD, John Driggers (Connie Cox) of Stockton, CA, Clay Prosser (Sarah Grainger) of Georgetown and Sammy Powers of Georgetown; 12 great nieces and nephews, Nichole, Bruce, Jessica, David, William, Catherine, Madeline, Joshua, Abigayle, Kelsea, Tara and Lexie; one great-great nephew, Brandon; two sisters in law, Hazel Driggers of Summerville and Annette Powers of Georgetown; and one brother in law, Robert Bauernfeind of Bozman, MD.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Louise P. Driggers, the love of his life; two sisters, Gloria Ann Bauernfeind and Frances Driggers; one brother, John Driggers; two sisters in law, Carol P. Prosser and Bertha Martin; and two brothers in law, Dewey Powers and Elbert P. Prosser, Jr.

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 18, 2014 at Wayne United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Chamblee and Rev. Jack Todd officiating. Burial followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Graham Funeral Home.

Cynthia Kennedy

Lewanna Kennedy

Belton-Lewanna Eloise Wilder Kennedy, 85, wife of Rev. Raymon Kennedy, died Sun., Aug. 24, 2014.

Born in Georgetown County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Edward and Mary Jane Blakeley Wilder. She was a homemaker, seamstress for B.C. Moore and a member of Daventon Baptist Church and also attended Ware Place Church of God.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by step-sons, Kit Kennedy of Belton and Darrell Kennedy of Ft. Worth, TX; step-daughters, Denise K. Jean of Belton, Brenda K. Haley of Columbia and Cynthia K. Beddingfield of St. Stephens; nephews, Jimmy Wilder and Andy Baylor of Andrews, and Ricky Wilder of Easley; and nieces, Sue W. Holcombe of Easley, Cathy W. Owens of Cincinnati, OH, Kristi Wilder and Darlene Ackerman of Andrews.

She was predeceased by her brother, James E. Wilder, Sr.

Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 26 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral followed at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Ed Ruffin Jr.

Funeral services for Retired Senior Master Sergeant Ed Ruffin, Jr., 66, formerly of Georgetown, were held at 11 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 26, 2014 at the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church on Sparkleberry Lane with full military honors. Interment followed in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel was in charge of these arrangements. Ed attended the public schools of Georgetown County and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduating high school. Retired Senior Master Sergeant Ed Ruffin Jr. was honorably discharged after unselfishly serving his country for over twenty-two years. He was a faithful member of First Northeast Baptist Church and worked several years as a dispatch supervisor for the Columbia-Richland Emergency Services Communication Center.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are his daughter, Mee Na (Israel) Stone; son, Marcus Broom; brothers, Nathaniel (Jackie) Wineglass, Reverend O’Dell and Floyd (Ellen) Ruffin; sisters, Alice McCray, Shirley Ruffin and Sandra (Marvin) Boykin; two grandchildren and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.

Alvilda Russ

Alvilda Pope Russ, 93, widow of Leslie T. Russ, passed away on Thur., Aug. 21, 2014 at her home.

Born on July 17, 1921, in Pleasant Hill, she was a daughter of the late Irby Pope and the late Eva Tanner Pope. Mrs. Russ was a member of Screven Baptist Church and a past member of Center Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard, sewing and going on long walks. Mrs. Russ was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include three children, Elton G. Russ (Cathy) of Georgetown, James Irby Russ (Donna) of Pickens and J. Earl Russ (Brenda) of Florence; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four brothers, Thayer Pope (Mary) of Rock Mount, NC, Joe Pope (Ella) of Hemingway, Wayne Avant (Janice) of Hemingway, Johnny Avant of Pleasant Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Russ; and two sisters, Olene Avant and Myrtle Goude.

Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 24, 2014 at Screven Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Williams officiating. Entombment followed in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Molly Sanders

Molly Lucille Sanders, 90, widow of J.E. Sanders, passed away on Thurs., Aug. 21, 2014 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.

Born on Aug. 22, 1923, in Georgetown County, she was a daughter of the late Quincy Moore and the late Louise Powers Moore. Mrs. Sanders enjoyed needle work and loved her animals.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Michau of Andrews; two grandsons, Thurman R. Michau, Jr. of Georgetown and Timothy K. Michau (Brandy J.) of Georgetown; three great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Rhetta Powell of Hemingway, Bessie Cooper of Hemingway and Eda McDaniel of Hemingway; two brothers, Quincy Moore, Jr. of Hemingway and Capus Moore of Smyrna, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Michau; one brother; and two sisters.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Sat., Aug.23, 2014 in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Graham Funeral Home.

William Skotnicki

William “Bill” Skotnicki, age 63, of Ripley, WV passed away Aug. 22, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV.

He is survived by his wife Pam and dog, E.J.; his mother Colleen Skotnicki; brother Bob and his wife Starr of Pawleys Island; sister Carol Areford and husband Dave; nephew Christopher and niece Ashley and her two children of Morgantown.

He was preceded in death by his father Ed “Skotty” Skotnicki.

He was born in Morgantown,WV and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1969. He attended West Virginia University. Mr. Skotnicki was a skilled craftsman and a master carpenter. He was the owner of The Woodcock LLC, building custom cabinetry and specialty furniture.

A celebration of his life will be held Sat., Aug. 30, 2014 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, WV.
