A Georgetown man was killed in a one-vehicle accident Saturday evening.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Kent Road near Durwood Street which is between Highway 17A and Highway 521.

Coroner Kenny Johnson said 22-year-old Wallace Byars of Paprika Way was alone in his vehicle. He said Byars ran off the left side of the road, struck a ditch then a driveway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because of the damage to the vehicle, it took emergency workers nearly two hours to remove Byars from the car.

The accident is still under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
