Andrews High School graduate Josh McElwee has been promoted to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, as announced by the Texas Rangers organization Aug. 19.
The Newberry College graduate reaches his highest level of professional baseball in his three-year career. He was a 20th round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers.
McElwee spent a month in Myrtle Beach for the Pelicans, where he pitched 21.2 innings with a 2-0 record and a 0.42 ERA, striking out 27 batters and walking only nine. Opponents hit .151 against him and he did not allow a run in his first 21.1 innings at the beach this season.
In his career, McElwee has an 11-5 record with 16 saves and a 3.08 ERA in 146.1 innings spread across 93 games at rookie (Spokane), low-A (Hickory) and high-A (Myrtle Beach).
