Moveable Feast – Literary luncheons with exciting authors

  • Friday, August 15, 2014

The Moveable Feast is held at area restaurants throughout the year on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On occasion, an author’s book tour schedule is accommodated with a mid-week Moveable Feast.

For each feast, the chef prepares an exquisite menu, typically unavailable during the restaurant’s public hours.

The luncheons range in size from 30 to 300. The presentation precedes the meal. Individuals, couples, friends, book clubs and other groups are assigned table seating. Each literary luncheon is followed by a book signing at Litchfield Books for those unable to participate in the feast. \Each feast is $25; books are available at a 10 percent discount from Litchfield Books. For schedules and reservations, call 843-235-9600 or www.classatpawleys.com.

Aug. 22 – Mark Powell (The Sheltering) at Pawleys Plantation

In this, his fourth novel, Powell broadens the Southern backdrop of his earlier work into a sprawling thriller taking readers from the Middle East to Charleston, southern Georgia, Tampa, Miami, New Orleans and into the storied American West. In its themes, perspectives and pacing, The Sheltering recalls the work of Robert Stone, Jim Harrison and Ben Fountain while further establishing Powell as a unique voice capable of interrogating unfathomable truths with a beauty and cohesion of language that challenges our assumptions of the human spirit. Novelist Ron Rash has deemed Powell “the best Appalachian novelist of his generation.”
