What do you do for the YMCA?

For years, I've either chaired or served on the committee for the YMCA Gala.

I have three kids, so I volunteer pretty often for school/sport events. I'm asked to make a lot of cookies.

Apparently, they're irresistible to children.

What do you like about volunteering?

It's a wonderful, caring group of people. I teach aerobics there, so I get to hang out with staff and clients, and everyone is super friendly.

Maybe that's because I make grumpy people do extra push-ups.

What should people know about the Gala?

It's a big, beautiful, fun-filled dinner and dance in November that helps support programs for children in need.

Tickets for this year's event just went on sale.

People can get information and tickets by calling 843-545-YMCA.

Do you volunteer with other organizations?

I volunteer with Georgetown Presbyterian Church.

I've served as district coordinator for the Girl Scouts, chaired a couple of Relay for Life committees, coached a cheerleading team, helped the YMCA Wahoos swim team with cross training, and videotaped lots of events for the local schools.

Tell us about your family.

My husband, Jeff, is an engineer.

I have three kids, Harrison, who is 13, Alexander, 11, and Rowan, who is about to turn 8.

The kids are super busy with Boy Scouts, gymnastics, swim team, football, softball, baseball, Beta Club, BEACH, and a whole bevy of other things.

Can I add “free chauffeur” to my list of volunteer activities?
