Woman charged with killing husband in Pleasant Hill area

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 58-year-old Sonia Gay Smith this evening for the murder of her husband 60-year-old Fermiond Smith. Smith was arrested at their residence which is located at 1572 Ray Road in the Hemingway section of Georgetown County, the Sheriff’s Office states in a press release.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the aforementioned location after Smith called 911 stating she just shot her husband. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found the victim lying on the floor in the residence unresponsive. Sheriff’s deputies made contact with Smith who was also in the residence and took her into custody. Information gathered from the investigation at this time is the shooting was domestic related.

Smith has been transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center where she will be formally charged with Murder.
