Blood and platelet donations through the American Red Cross have dropped over the past 11 weeks, creating an urgent need for donors of all types to give blood.
Help replenish the blood supply and donate Fri., Aug. 1, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Donors can give between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the staff development building behind the hospital.
Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment, call 843-652-1135 or go to http://www.redcrossblood.org.
Red Cross officials say the current need is acute because donations are down by 11 percent for the last eight weeks, a time when the need for blood rises.
In addition to having a valid ID, blood donors must be healthy, be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.
