Brookgreen open late for Cool Summer Evenings

Brookgreen Gardens “Aaron and Theodosia,” written for Brookgreen Gardens, is a historic drama offering a glimpse into the relationship and tragic stories of Theodosia Burr Alston and her father, Aaron Burr, as told through their actual letters.

Featuring a new character, additional dialogue, and period costumes and furnishings, the past truly comes to life with this production. The play will run on Wednesday evenings through Aug. 6.

Thurs., July 31 – Up Close at the Zoo – at 5 p.m., Jerry Walls, co-star of CBS television’s ‘Carolina Safari’ will present “Snakes Alive!” educational and interactive programs with of live animals an educational and interactive program about animals.

Then at 6 p.m., enjoy live performances in the Enchanted Storybook Forest when the Cat in the Hat shares his story and interact with kids.

The new boat ride “A Child’s Frontier Life” takes you back in time to discover what life was like for the European and Native American children. Kids play games, hear stories, and receive a memento of the trip. Boat rides are at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. (Tickets required - $8 adults, $4 children. Same day purchase only.)

7 p.m. Fri., Aug. 1 - Concert on the Lawn features Dan Kennedy, originally a classically trained composer, and now a New Age/Contemporary musician. His original New Age compositions include a distinctive blend of jazz and rock. In 2012, Dan’s latest CD “Intuition” was one of the top New Age albums and was produced by Grammy Award winner, Corin Nelsen.

On Wednesday and Friday evenings, the Pavilion Restaurant offers dinner until 7:30 p.m. and desserts and beverage are available for purchase on the Pavilion Patio during the concerts. On Thursday evening, the Courtyard Cafe is open until 7 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to Wednesday and Friday performances. The Lowcountry Trail, the Zoo, Butterfly House, and Enchanted Storybook Forest close at 7 p.m.

Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and non-profit organization, is located on U.S. 17 between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and is open to the public daily. For more information, visit their website at www.brookgreen.org or call 843-235-6000.
