Immigration a moral issue

  • Thursday, July 24, 2014

To the Editor:

The recent wave of an estimated 60,000 young Central America illegal immigrants (Google: reuters waves of immigrant children) is a humanitarian disaster for both the immigrants and US citizens.

The first and immediate priority is to put a stop to it. There will be a time to assign blame and ensure that both immigrants and US citizens receive justice.

Trivializing an ongoing crisis with canine philosophy (“Children on the border,” July 17) about values and laws only serves to enable the administration and members of congress to allow this human crisis to continue.

This situation was created by Washington for political purposes and will end only when Washington (Democrats and Republicans) understands it is no longer in their best interest.

And please don’t tell me the administration needs more money or authority to end this. Previous Republican and Democrat administrations and this administration in particular have shown they can find money and authority to do what they want to do when they want to do it.

In the mean time, children are being abused and dying, TB and other communicable diseases are being spread, and drug and human traffickers are entering our country along with possible terrorists. Today it is a moral issue, tomorrow we can talk about values and laws.
