A Georgetown man convicted on heroin charges will not be eligible for parole until the year 2035 at the earliest.

According to the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office, 27-year-old Jawan Rayel White was sentenced to 25 years in prison by Judge Larry B. Hyman for trafficking more than 28 grams of heroin.

Under South Carolina law, White will not be eligible for parole or any early release until after he has served 85 percent of his sentence—roughly 21 years.

According to the press release, agents with the Drug Enforcement Unit originally apprehended White attempting to purchase a large quantity of powder heroin in Horry County in August, 2011.

When White failed to appear for the trial of these charges in June of 2013, he was tried in his absence before Judge Hyman and found guilty on the sole count of trafficking heroin.

White's sentence was sealed, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Assistant Solicitor Martin Spratlin presented the case to the court.

Authorities apprehended White in January when he was arrested for additional drug charges. Those additional charges are still pending at this time.
