CD provides listeners with Gullah things to think about

  • Thursday, July 17, 2014

Author, performing artist, and cultural preservationist Ronald Daise has released a new CD, “Gullah Tings fa Tink Bout.”

Through songs and readings, Daise offers listeners a musical journey to understanding and appreciating Gullah Geechee culture.

CD downloads and albums are available on cdbaby.com, iTunes, Amazon.com, and rondaise.com. Locally, albums are available at Keepsakes, the Brookgreen Gardens Gift Shop; Gullah Museum, Georgetown; House of God Church, Pawleys Island; and Ultimate Gullah, Conway.

Former star of Nick Jr. TV’s award winning television series, “Gullah Gullah Island,” Daise is vice president for creative education at Brookgreen Gardens, where he presents a weekly Gullah Geechee program series.

Selected songs are featured at each program. He also is the former chairman of the federal Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission.

“Gullah Tings fa Tink Bout” was funded through a $5,000 one-time project grant by the SC Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The grant required a cash match, for which half could be fulfilled as in-kind service.

The project dovetails with implementation tiers of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor: education, documentation and preservation, and economic development.
